The "Renascimento" installation was created with 30,000 colored pencils used by schoolchildren.
The work was exhibited at the entrance to the Portuguese Language Museum in the iconic architecture of the Estação da Luz in downtown São Paulo. The large lotus flower, inspired by the origami technique, sprouted on a charcoal floor and symbolized the resurgence of life after the fire that destroyed the building in 2015.
Many of the pencils that make up the sculpture bear the names of the children as a testimony to the process of working with materials from dozens of schools in the city.
