EDUARDO SRUR LAUNCHES PROJECT ‘PLASTIC PORTRAITS’
IN THE CITY OF SÃO PAULO.

On June 13 the artist Eduardo Srur will unveil a brand-new version of the project Retratos Plásticos, with the participation of 500 students and teachers at the Jaguaré Unified Educational Center (CEU). The project began in May and offers a creative and technological immersion in which students participate in meetings and lectures with the artist, learn art history through content focused on environmental awareness and ecology in a 3D virtual gallery, and recreate renowned works using plastic as paint—transforming everyday waste into artistic expression.

The theme of portraiture in painting was the main inspiration for the selection of artists such as Picasso, Van Gogh, Francis Bacon, and Andy Warhol, as well as Brazilian artists like Tarsila do Amaral, Portinari, and Anita Malfatti. Some of the works featured in the activities are part of the MASP collection, strengthening the students’ connection to the city’s artistic output and cultural heritage.

This traveling initiative will also visit two other CEUs in the municipality and reach approximately 1,500 students throughout the year. The project promotes environmental education, artistic awareness, and reflection on plastic consumption. At each event, the school and community take center stage in a collective process that brings together art, ecology and civic engagement.

Retratos Plásticos is a production by Eduardo Srur, with sponsorship from Microsoft and support from the City of São Paulothrough the Municipal Culture Incentive Program.
